5 O' CLOCK SHADOW BLUESBAND - BIO
When the Aarschot-based bluesband THE MOOSE became defunct in sept '05, it did not take much time for the three remaining music-breathing cohorts to merge and form a new band.
Primarily stimulated by composing talent KRIS KIRRI VALVEKENS, this triad immediately picked things up and barshed into the rehearsal room. Nearly one month later, they reappeared on stage as 5 O' CLOCK SHADOW BLUESBAND supporting heavy bluesers THE IMPERIAL CROWNS. The gig had a warm receiving. as a matter of fact, this try-out was spot on!
A striking characteristic of the band is the rhythm-section, often emerging as a smoothfull host, trying to anticipate and work on the sometimes erratic guitarlashes and vocal caprioles of KIRRI on stage, though always helping to change the composition into a unique piece of improvisation and playful joy.
Melodic moments and jazzy interventions weave with rocking edge, but the music is always based on this magnetic bluesfeel, sometimes coloured by backing-vocals of bass-player JAN VERMEULEN, or appearing in the enthusiastic consistency of drummer KRIS OOMS, certainly always blended with charismatic know-how and virtuosis of guitarist/singer KRIS VALVEKENS.
The repertory holds a wide range of numbers carefully drawn from the rich blues-legacy and moulded in typical 5OCS.
Always a delight to see how these spotlight kids perform and play on the big stage or in the humble environment of a bluesclub. Devoted to and in love with craft(manship), this band knows how to move the whole lot and to make an audience burn from desire and... to want more!
Bij het ter ziele gaan van de Aarschotse bluesband THE MOOSE (sept. ’05) duurde het maar even vooraleer ¾ van die band zich samensmolt tot 5ocs bluesband.
Dit trio rond gitarist-zanger KRIS KIRRI VALVEKENS nam onmiddellijk de draad weer op en dook in de repetitieruimte. Eén maand later stonden zij terug op het podium voor hun eerste miniconcert.
Deze zeer geslaagde try-out, als support-act van THE IMPERIAL CROWNS, was een schot in de roos!
Het warme onthaal nam alle twijfels weg. De start was genomen.
Eén van de kenmerken van deze band is de geoliede ritmesectie die de soms waanzinnige gitaar en zangcapriolen van gitarist-zanger KIRRI VALVEKENS stevig ondersteund. De composities van zijn hand worden op het podium unieke stukken improvisatie en spelplezier.
Dan wat jazzy, dan wat rock en verder met een stevige blues: het zit allemaal in deze band. Hier en daar wat bijgekleurd met de backing vocals van bassist JAN VERMEULEN en het eeuwige enthousiasme van drummer KRIS OOMS is het steeds een plezier deze band aan het werk te zien.
De rest van het repertoire wordt aangevuld met nummers uit het rijke bluesarchief maar dan gebracht op een geheel eigen wijze.
Op het grote podium of in de kleine blueskroeg, vol overgave en liefde voor het vak weet dit trio alles en iedereen te bewegen en doen verlangen naar meer.
